How to prepare a brief for an AI product commercial

The product assets, approved claims and delivery decisions that help a studio assess your commercial before production starts.

Start with one audience and one job

Describe who will watch the film, where they will see it and what they should understand or do afterwards. A launch-page film, a vertical social edit and a sales presentation have different viewing conditions. Choose the primary use first, then list additional versions. A focused benefit is easier to demonstrate than a list of unrelated features.

Supply a reliable product reference

Provide sharp photographs from several angles, accurate dimensions, packaging artwork, a vector logo and a note of details that must never change. Include materials, colours and any transparent or reflective surfaces. If a 3D model or clean product footage already exists, say so. Do not send confidential files in the first email; a public product link and a description are enough to begin.

Separate approved facts from visual ideas

Identify which claims have been approved for public use. Explain a reference by naming what you like: the light, camera distance, pacing or material treatment. A reference is not permission to copy a brand, face, soundtrack or shot. Share only assets you can authorise for this project, and flag any usage restrictions before storyboarding.

Decide what must remain exact

AI generation can introduce changes to packaging, text and object geometry. Product-critical shots may need real photography, a controlled 3D render or compositing. Mark these shots in the brief instead of assuming every frame can be generated reliably. Test a difficult transformation or material before committing the whole film to it.

Specify the delivery and approval process

List the main duration, aspect ratios, required languages, subtitles, release date and who approves the script and picture. State whether shorter edits need a different opening or only a new crop. These are different production tasks. Agree how feedback will be consolidated and when a new concept becomes a change of scope.

A first enquiry can stay short

Send a product link, the main audience and message, intended channels, target date and an indicative budget range. Add one or two references with a sentence about each. We can then discuss the missing material and feasibility. The first conversation does not require a finished script, a confidential asset upload or a commitment to commission the film.
